St Matthew in the City Votive Candle stand In 2018 We were approached by Peter Reed from Salmond Reed Architects to Create a Votive Candle stand for St Matthew in the city in Auckland. Peters design was based on the stained glass above where the candle stand was fixed and incorporated one hundred hand forged leaves, fifty of which were pressed to hold tea lights candles. The clients had 2 old lamp posts they wanted to incorporate into the design which became the starting point for the design. The proposal was accepted along with 20 other works from around New Zealand. We made the sculpture over a few months, forging and fabricating the components, galvanizing and then painting with Porters Paints “Instant Copper” paint to give it the green patina.
